First day of warm-up game for Lords. Request to play all members of squad thwarted. Somerset insistent only eleven players can be used in first-class fixture. Well, we’ll see what the next ICC meeting has to say about that. Don’t be surprised if they vote for 17-a-side games and automatic lbw for wearing a maroon helmet.

Delighted ECB arranged to parachute in Andrew Strauss. Without him Somerset only had four South African born players. How’s that kind of opposition supposed to prepare you for playing England? It’s unrealistic enough that they play domestic cricket.

Bowlers struggled today. Although to be fair, you don’t find many pitches as flat as Taunton on the sub-continent. Did get valuable insight into England captain’s form though. Made note of what we learnt – “Plays loose shot on 78”. Could come in handy latter on in series.

Am concerned captain’s off-field commercial ventures may be disruptive. Dressing room in chaos this lunchtime whilst delivery from Shackleton’s High Seat Chairs – the official tour sponsors of MS Dhoni sitting down – was manoeuvred  through pavilion and out onto the players balcony. Looks comfy enough, but you almost need a pilot’s licence to sit in it.

Not sure we could risk it at Lords. MCC members made enough fuss about a bit of glass falling on them. How’d they react if an entire wicketkeeper was tipped over the railings into their laps?

Still waiting for a Google+ invite. Pretty sure Mukund has some but is holding out on me.

That guy needs to ask himself if he wants a test place or not. Either send me an invite and add me to your tour party friendship circle or it’ll be 12th man duty for you, sunny Jim.
